Total Time: 48 hours
This game was a product of the 2017 Shenanijam hosted by the St. Louis indie game company Butterscotch Shenanigans. Our theme, plunger joystick, was randomly rolled from a list of podcast titles. The game is about a plunger trying to clear the clog in a sewer.
The brainstorming lasted about 1 hour and the rest of the weekend was spent developing the game. A platformer game was decided after riffing on ideas for how wacky a plunger jumping would be. We decided to really leverage the weirdness factor in both art style and jumping mechanics while trying to maintain a fair amount of familiar platformer mechanics. The initial character was a man riding the plunger like a pogo stick who could attach to walls to scale up them, jump from the floor to the ceiling, as well as the normal platformer jumping. The actually jumping mechanic was given a twist. We tried to make it as plunger-like as possible. It is sort of hard to explain so you will need to play it yourself.
